The Story of the SpeakerHeads

    The story about the creation and development of the SpeakerHeads is an interesting one that spans the course of many years.

          My name is Bill.  I’m a bass player by trade, playing in an international touring band.  When I was growing up in New Jersey, it was the hey day for music and the only thing I wanted to do.  I started playing piano and drums at age 6 and later taught myself to play guitar before transitioning to the bass in my teens.

         One day in the mid-eighties, sitting around our band’s rehearsal space, I found myself staring at the drum set and one of the speaker cabinets, when I got this crazy idea.  Noticing how similar the drum and speaker cabinet were I decided to integrate a speaker cone with a bass drum head and that was the creation of the very first SpeakerHead.  I made two models – one for the kick drum and one for the floor tom.  At the time we were scheduled to record in the studio, so I convinced our drummer to use them on the tracks.  Those tracks still exist to this day.

         My involvement with playing in bands never stopped and I became distracted from my new “invention”.  Some time had passed and I found myself moving to sunny Los Angeles with my band.  Before going, I decided to take a few Polaroids of what I had done. This is one the pictures I took that day, so have a good laugh.

1990 – Hair and Headlines

         Fast forward some 20 years later and on a lark one day I started searching the internet for any sign or inception of my invention.  To my surprise, there was absolutely nothing out there.  That’s when I decided to start investigating the patenting process.  A few years later on Sept 17th 2013, I was proud owner of Patent # 8,536,434B2.

         From that point on, the good people at Loudspeaker Components Corp (LCC) and I started to work together developing the SpeakerHeads.  Repercussion Technologies was then founded as the parent company to help bring the SpeakerHeads to fruition and the general public.  Together, we will soon have a product to be proud of.
